GATE Full Form
Full form of GATE is "GRADUATE APTITUDE TEST IN ENGINEERING"
GATE is a primary entrance examination conducted annually for admission in various stream of post graduation for Engineering & Science. GATE has been conducted by Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore and seven Indian Institutes of Technology on behalf of the National Coordinating Board. GATE had been started since 1984.
Bachelor Degree holder in Engineering & Science can appear in GATE. The GATE score of a candidate reflects the relative performance level of a candidate. The score is used for admissions to various post-graduate education programs in Indian higher education institutes, with financial assistance provided by MHRD and other government agencies. Recently, GATE scores are also being used by several Indian public sector undertakings (i.e. ONGC, IOCL, NTPC, SAIL, NALCO, PGCIL, NPCIL etc) for recruiting graduate engineers in entry-level positions.
GATE is conducted in 25 disciplines. They are:
- Aerospace Engineering (AE)
- Agricultural Engineering (AG)
- Architecture and Planning (AR)
- Biomedical (BM)
- Biotechnology (BT)
- Civil Engineering (CE)
- Chemical Engineering (CH)
- Computer Science and Information Technology (CS)
- Chemistry (CY)
- Electronics and Communication Engineering (EC)
- Electrical Engineering (EE)
- Ecology and Evolution (EY)
- Geology and Geophysics (GG)
Eligibility: Bachelors Degree in Engineering/ Technology (4 Years after 10+2 or 3 years after B.Sc/ Diploma (Engineering/ Technology).
